Heat generation
LuxEnergie uses 3 different types of power plants to supply heat:
- Boiler plant
The heat is produced exclusively by a central-heating boiler. Oil or gas is used as the primary energy source.
- Cogeneration-plant
A cogeneration-plant is a combined heat and power plant, using high efficiency boilers to produce heat. Combined heat and power plants produce heat and power (electricity). The concept uses a generator in combination with a combustion engine. The waste heat of the engine powers the heaters or is absorbed to produce cold. The electricity is fed into the power grid operated by Cegedel. If the heat demand exceeds the thermal output of the CHP, one or more high efficiency boilers are used to supply additional heat.
- Solar panels
Solar panels are suited for both heating public outdoor pools and to produce hot water. The water is heated up as the sun hits the solar panels and distributed to the outdoor pool or the heating system.
